In a nutshell

As you step into the new principal role, you will immediately be greeted by Jean-Paul, who is also a principal, Rob Walg the product owner and 3 other developers. With them, your challenge is laying out the high-level plan of what our Digital data and customer information teams will do, to break up the current monolithic CRM solution into multiple parts and help establish a fully distributed architecture. We need your support in figuring out the technical direction for the company. 

Technically, your focus is on the backend, building the software engineering roadmap and guiding teams along. These teams are already used to building distributed systems and are counting on you to take this practice further.

And it's all about a fine balancing game:

  • Between the business requirements and our team's technical solutions
  • Between an old CRM system and a completely new and agile solution
  • Between the different consequences of our alternatives, within cost limits
  • Between interacting with the business and discussing with the technical team

You guessed it right, our vision for this role includes solid communication lines. Not only will you discuss on the same level with principals, the product owner and the developers in your own team, but you will also help bring the visions of other projects closer to your team. This way, you can really understand their pain points and how we can best continue with the vendor selection. In close collaboration, we can build a fresh roadmap, including our own team setup and vendors, to introduce new CRM capabilities.  

Within your team, you will coach people and support them into progressing themselves independently. If you feel fulfilled when you identify the potentials in your team and help people grow, then you'll be perfect for this principal role.

Outside your team, you will collaborate across value streams and make clear the link between what we want to achieve technically and the business goals. Even more outside your team, you will help us interviewing new people when needed.

Tech stack

Frontend: ReactJs, Typescript and Emotion

Backend: .NET Core C# and SqlServer/PostgresQL/Redis

Deployment: AzureDevOps, Docker, Terraform, Fargate and AWS

 

Your Profile

You will be valued for:

  • Confidence bringing into discussion and owning complex concepts, such as a distributed software architecture;
  • The vision to turn a monolithic application into distributed systems, establish building patterns and coaching teams towards the vision;
  • Solid experience with software development, particularly backend;
  • Can also communicate with the business world, so it's clear for them what we want to achieve;
  • A passion for coaching technical people of all levels and being relatable to them, from different perspectives;
  • Experience growing a team and interviewing;
  • We would be extra grateful if you also had;
  • Ambition to turn the architecture of a single distributed system into an enterprise architecture;
  • Passion for speaking at company events and conferences;
  • A knack for talking business, an entrepreneurial spirit, ability to connect tech to business.
